Objective
The goal of Planning Large Scale Data Migration was to create an engaging and visually distinctive explainer animation that introduced a complex AWS concept in a way that felt approachable, modern, and memorable. The piece needed to push the boundaries of AWS brand design, moving beyond traditional technical explainer content into a high-level, marketing-style introduction that captured attention immediately.
What we've done
I owned the project end-to-end, handling every stage of production including:
Concept & Storyboarding – translating a technical topic into a visually clear and compelling narrative.
Illustration & Animation – designing original graphics and animating them with fluid transitions and eye-catching motion.
Sound & Music Selection – curating audio to match the pace, tone, and emotional impact of the visuals.
Final Integration – ensuring the animation aligned with AWS brand standards while introducing fresh, bold design choices.
Creative Process
The process began with defining the visual language—balancing AWS’s established design system with experimental layouts, color treatments, and dynamic transitions to set a distinctive tone. I developed storyboards that mapped the journey of a large-scale migration, using abstract yet intuitive visual metaphors to simplify complex ideas.From there, I layered in animation principles (anticipation, timing, and rhythm) to create a flow that felt cinematic rather than purely technical. The audio design reinforced this, with sound cues and music that heightened momentum and gave the piece a marketing-forward polish.
Results
Delivered a polished intro animation that elevated a technical topic into an eye-catching, high-level narrative.
Positioned AWS Training & Certification content with a more marketing-driven appeal, bridging technical accuracy with brand storytelling.
Expanded AWS’s visual design vocabulary, testing new directions for illustration, pacing, and sound.

Conclusion
This project demonstrated how explainer animations for AWS can move beyond traditional technical content and operate as brand-building creative assets. By blending illustration, motion, and audio design, the animation successfully communicated a complex concept while reinforcing AWS’s identity as forward-thinking and innovative. The process also proved the value of a single-creator pipeline, where consistency and experimentation can thrive from concept to final delivery.
